Paul Balmer was born in South Africa, where he lived until moving to Australia at the age of seventeen.  He studied Fine Art at the Drawing School in Sydney and Graphic Design at the Sydney Institute of Technology.  Not long after graduating, Paul’s passion for art took him to Europe, where he started painting landscapes and architecture. Although his art began more academic, it soon gave way to works of the imagination.  Realism was replaced by representation. The scale of neoclassical buildings changed and light and shadow was exaggerated.  After this series of paintings were completed Paul decided to bring his work to America. In New York City, he found a home and inspiration for a new series of representational cityscapes.  Although his subject matter continually evolves he is markedly influenced by his roots in South Africa and Australia.  Balmer's work has been shown nationally and internationally. Galleries include: Caldwell Snyder Gallery San Francisco and Napa Valley; Albermarle Gallery  London; Charles Hewitt Gallery Sydney; Everard Read Gallery Capetown; White Wave Gallery Seoul;
